Fa molt i molt de temps el poble de Montblanc era devastar per un monstre ferotge i terrible, que podia caminar, volar i nedar, i tenia un alè tant pudent, que des de molt lluny amb les seves alenades enverinava l'aire i produïa la mort a tots els qui el respiraven.

El monstre era l'estrall dels ramats i les persones, i per tota aquella contrada regnava el terror més profund. Preocupats per la situació, els habitats de Montblanc van pensar en donar al drac, cada dia de menjar a una persona, per intentar calmar-lo. El problema, era trobar la persona que vulgues sacrificar-se cada dia per ser devorada pel drac.

I així fou com després d’una llarga discussió, els vilatans van decidir sortejar cada dia qui seria la persona que aniria a para a l’estomac del drac. I així ho feren, i sembla ser que la jugada els va sortir bé, l’abominable bèstia se’n deuria sentir satisfeta, perquè deixà de fer estralls i malifetes per aquelles terres.

Però heus aquí que un dia, la sort feu que li toqués ser devorada a la filla del rei. La jove princesa era molt simpática, amable; bonica i elegant. Tenia el cor de tots els ciutadans robats, i per aquest motiu centenars s’oferiren per substituir-la. Però el rel, afligit i adolorit, fou just i sever, la seva filla era com qualsevol altre. Si li havia tocat hi havia d’anar.

I així fou com la jove doncella sortí del Castell per trobar-se amb la bèstia mentre tot el proble mirava desconsolat i afligit, com la princesa es dirigía cap al sacrifici. Però mentre la noia es dirigia cap al cau del monstre, un jove cavaller, amb una brillant armadura, muntat sobre un cavall blanc, es va presentar. La doncella se’l mirà i l’advertí:

-          Fugiu! Fugiu ràpidament d’aquí! Noble cavaller, si us quedeu per aquí, apareixerà la bèstia i nomès us vegi us devorarà.

MONA DE PASQUA

Al Principat de Catalunya és tradició que el padrí o l'avi regalin la mona al seu fillol i néts el Diumenge de Pasqua o Pasqua Florida, en principi després de missa, tot i que actualment no sempre es va a la missa.
El Dilluns de Pasqua era tradició que es reunissin dues o tres famílies o un grup d'amics i que anessin a menjar a algun indret la mona plegats, en un àpat en el qual no hi mancava el conill a la brasa, la paella i el vi.

Al segle XVIII, ja era l'obsequi clàssic del padrí als seus fillols, i el nombre d'ous que tenia la mona corresponia amb l'edat del nen fins que arribava a 12 anys. El pastís que els acompanyava era una confecció senzilla de rebosteria, coneguda com coca de Pasqua, i podia agafar diverses formes d'animals o d'objectes.

La tradició de la mona de Pasqua s'aparella amb la dels flequers-pastissers, els quals fan autèntiques filigranes arquitectòniques amb la xocolata, i és des de mitjan del segle XIX que les mones perden llur
senzillesa inicial i la seva presentació es fa més complicada, ja que s'ha d'enriquir amb ornaments de sucre caramel·litzat, ametlles ensucrades, confitures, crocant, anissos platejats i, naturalment, els ous de Pasqua pintats; tot això coronat per figures de porcellana, fusta, cartó o tela.
